The image of dharmabum's creation was posted on the Something Awful forums on October 31, 2010. The image depicts a JPEG-file of a picture of Jesus Christ. The file caption reads "I love Jesus Christ!", and is surrounded by a red frame.

The text is displayed in white and red font and is written in all capital letters and slightly smaller than standard font size. After this early posting, the meme spread quickly throughout the Internet, and eventually spawned other variations such as "I LOVE JESUS CHRIST!", I love Jesus Christ" or even "lOVE JESUS CHRIST!" This request led to hundreds of people sending in joke captions using the term 'Jesus Christ', which are then pasted onto posters that are displayed during protest events. Many popular sites have started to recognize these memes as they are commonly referred to as "Jesus quotes".
